EDUCATION & PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE.

Education

I completed my undergraduate and graduate studies at SMU earning my Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees in psychology with Departmental Distinction and high honors.   During my graduate studies I began working with students diagnosed with ADHD as the Assistant Director of SMU's College Preparatory Program. In addition to providing these students seeking admission to SMU with individualized academic support, I conducted my graduate research, wrote my master’s thesis and doctoral dissertation, and published an article in the Journal of College Admissions on my work with students in the College Preparatory Program.  While in graduate school I also worked at the renowned Shelton Evaluation Center and within SMU’s Counseling and Testing Center providing counseling services and conducting psycho-educational evaluations for students with suspected ADHD, learning disabilities, and/or emotional disorders.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: SMU STAFF

Upon completion of my Master's degree, I spent a year and a half as an Academic Advisor within SMU’s Dedman College Advising Center, after which I was hired to launch SMU’s academic support initiative for students with ADHD and learning disabilities (currently referred to as DASS).  In 2001 I began a private coaching practice in which I have worked extensively with SMU students as well as students from other universities including  Texas Christian University, Dallas Baptist University, Texas Tech, Baylor, Texas A&M, University of Texas, University of Denver, LSU, Alabama, Clemson, and Santa Clara University.

PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: SMU FACULTY

Since leaving SMU in 2001, I have maintained close ties with the University, in part by serving as an Adjunct Faculty member in the Department of Psychology where I have taught Introduction to Psychology and Abnormal Psychology. My knowledge and experience as an SMU student, faculty, and staff member enable me not only to relate to students and their experiences, but also to guide them through the curriculum and help them navigate the various processes, policies, and procedures they encounter throughout their undergraduate studies.

Over the course of my career I have worked with hundreds of students, participated in extensive continuing education, and maintained professional relationships at SMU, within the Dallas community, and in the national ADHD community.  I am proud to be a member of both CHADD (Children and Adults with ADHD) and ADDA (Attention Deficit Disorder Association), two of the country’s leading non-profit resources dedicated to ADHD education, advocacy, and support.
